Reach The Needy

It's good to have you online

We thank God for Reach the Needy, US partners Owen and Vanessa who visited Malawi on 20 November 2015. Owen and Vanessa had an opportunity to visit Maliri Primary School in the rural side of the Capital City of Malawi, Lilongwe. It is about 15kms away from the city.

Early 2015, Reach the Needy identified 10 kids from the school, 5 girls and 5 boys. These kids were assisted with school uniforms. Visiting the school for the first time, one wouldn't know which one is the true uniform as every kid puts on what he or she thinks fits or is closer to the required uniform. The school has over 1000 students.

It was in 2015 that Reach the Needy decided to increase the number of uniforms for donation to the needy, targeting girls only this time around. On 23 December, Reach the Needy represented by Owen, Vanessa, Dalitso and Christopher donated 50 girls uniforms. It was an amazing experience to see happy and smiling faces.

The challenges that the school and most of the surrounding schools are facing are numerous. in the first place we are talking of kids who walk longer distances to get to school. We heard very shocking stories that some due to poverty, they go to school without taking breakfast, and spend the whole morning in class. Visiting the clasroom one would shockingly wonder if the kids are getting the right content. The school does not have sufficient learning materials. This is a school which does not have a library, you can only see a few books in the headmasters office. Due to lack of good infrastructure, some of the kids learn under the trees. The teachers do not even have a staff room where they can use and plan their lessons for the students. These are schools that hope that these kids will one day be leaders in the society. To us as Reach the Needy, this was a wake up call to do something.

This situation if left unattended, the future of these kids will not be desirable. That calls for an urgent attention.

Reach the Needy is looking for well wishers, partners with a heart to give to partner with us and reverse the situation. We are looking for donations that will have an impact on this and the next generation. Reach the Needy has plans to construct good classroom blocks, library, and sanitation facilities. Building these facilities only will not help improve the quality of education. We also plan to provide learning materials. Would you join us in this transformation agenda?
